The new look Tigers will be in action Saturday in the spring game

Following two seasons with a combined win total of two games, the Grambling State Tigers will demonstrate major changes when they step on the field for the first time since last season in the spring Black and Gold game March 22.

Since the controversy involving the firing of Doug Williams and the player’s strike, GSU has cleaned house of all football coaches and personnel bringing in former GSU player Broderick Fobbs

Fobbs, who was a tight ends coach at McNesse State last season, is getting his first head coaching experience at his alma mater. Fobbs had the great privilege of playing under the legendary Eddie Robinson in the mid ’90s

“Eddie served as a father figure to my father which influences me. Everything I am, everything I aspire to be is because of Eddie Robinson,” Fobbs said.

The Tigers face an uphill battle at the start of the season having six consecutive road games with opponents ranging from Lamar to the University of Houston and Bethune Cookman

“We take the motto were ready to play wherever you place the ball. We just want to play the game and be dominant, and also away games take away distractions,” said the first time head coach.

Although August is months away, preparation is in full effect on campus with players lifting weights and conditioning daily. The hard work of the team will be exhibited in the upcoming black and gold game. March 22 Grambling will host a G-Men reunion weekend, on Friday they will host a meet the coaches social at the Robinson Museum from 7 p.m. to 10 .p.m. Saturday they will kick the day off with a Breakfast social at Ryan’s Steakhouse from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Following the breakfast is a pre game warm up from 11a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Then at noon the G-Men will host a flag football game that’s scheduled until 12:50 p.m. Soon after, GSU will host the Black and Gold game parade, which will begin at 1 p.m. and shortly after, pre game activities will begin for the main event.
