Two named to endowed professor positions

 

Two Grambling State University faculty members were named as endowed professors in their respective departments.

Dr. Joyce Montgomery-Scott, a native of Bastrop, is a professor in the Criminal Justice Department at GSU since 1983. She was recently appointed by President Frank G. Pogue as the Pinkie C. Wilkerson Endowed Professor in criminal justice.

Dr. Montgomery-Scott received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from Grambling State University and became the first African-American to receive the Ph.D. in sociology/criminal justice from Western Michigan University.

Montgomery-Scott is the recipient of numerous awards including the Icon Award. The National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice presented this award in recognition of her outstanding work in the field of criminal justice. She is very active in community service projects throughout north Louisiana, having founded the Grambling Swanson Mentoring Project that is designed to expose incarcerated youth to higher education. 

She is a published author of several articles and a book focusing on mentoring at-risk youth.

Dr. Semere Haile, management professor, is part of the Department of Management and Marketing at GSU. Dr. Haile was appointed by Dr. Pogue as the Larry Lundy Endowed Professor in Business on December 1, 2012. 

He received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati in interdisciplinary studies, and M.B.A. from Xavier University in Cincinnati. The primary research interest of Haile is in international human resources. 

Over the years, Dr. Haile has had the opportunity to assist faculty in discovering new knowledge about teaching and research. 

In 2012, he was assigned the responsibility of establishing a Research Colloquium. The purpose of the Research Colloquium is to promote research, scholarship and creative work in collaboration with faculty and students as a vital component of higher education. 

Haile’s contribution to the discipline of management and international business has led to the publication of more than 46 articles in refereed national and international journals. Dr. Haile has received 11 research and service awards. He has worked at GSU for over 25 years.

Dr. Haile continues to provide services aimed at fulfilling the mission of Grambling State University.
