Tigers fall yards short of win in 2021 State Fair Classic
The Grambling State Tigers lost to the Prairie View Panthers 17-10 in the 2021 State Fair Classic at Global Life Park.
For the G-Men, this is the second game in a row that they had the ball deep in the red zone late and failed to capitalize.
"We have to figure it out quickly because this league is too good for us to just go through the motions,” Tigers head coach Broderick Fobbs said.
The Tigers quarterback Geremy Hickbottom passed for 113 yards and threw two interceptions. Junior quarterback Elijah Walker completed 7 of 9 passes for 90 yards and rushed for one touchdown.
The GSU ground attacked struggled only registering 2.3 yards per carry. Tigers running back Lyndemain Brooks led the team in rushing with 63 yards.
Darrell Clark was one of the few bright spots on offense. He hauled in 6 catches for 91 yards to lead the team in receiving on the afternoon.
Junior Kenan Fontenot led the Tigers defense with nine total tackles.
The G-Men return home next Saturday March 20 against another SWAC opponent in Arkansas Pine-Bluff. The Tigers (0-2 overall, 0-2 SWAC) will look for their first win of the season.
