Music is like a sunflower; beautiful, unique, different and can attract people’s attention.

Possessing a musical talent is an extraordinary gift and it’s no doubt that Grambling State University has many students with gifts in music.

Music is a talent that many possess and what you choose to do with it is up to you. Isaiah “Zellie” Bass is a Music Education major at GSU with an also burning aspiration as a singer.

“I’ve always had a love for music as far as I can remember,” Bass said. “Singing and dancing by myself in my room to Ciara and Beyonce at just 6 or 7 years old.”

Music is a part of Bass’s family and has played a vital role in deciding to pursue music later on in life.

Bass was a member of Grambling State University’s Concert Choir, under the direction of Natorshau Davis, and says that it has molded, shaped, and given him confidence in his craft. “Miss Davis is a true inspiration. She pushes her students to be great and better than they think of themselves. I’m so thankful for her even if she may not know,” Bass said.

Bass’s newest single “Skins” was released Oct. 27 and is currently available on all music platforms.

Love Progressions is the name of Zellie’s EP that debuted in 2019.

The EP consisted of seven to eight months of writing, producing, and recording in order for it to be perfect.

“It took so much dedication with many sleepless nights, tears, and headaches that turned into smiles and joy seeing the ending body of work that I am proud to say I have under my name,” Bass said.

Bass thanks GSU’s Music Department for having professors who encourage students to showcase their talent and motivate them to perfect their craft in music as well.

The Music Department at GSU offers courses to all students looking to better their music skills whether they are vocal or instrumental.
