Junior encouraged to start online store, pandemic boosting sales

Dominque Carmouche has wanted to be her own boss since high school because she wasn’t too fond of working underneath others.

Carmouche, a junior leisure studies major from Monroe, was hesitant to start off on her own because she felt as if no one would support her dream. But her family’s encouragement and support was all she needed to get started.

Now, she is the owner of Princesarella Beauty, an online store.

They offer 100% mink lashes of all different styles and lengths and will also be adding accessories to their catalog soon.

The business markets its products through social media.

Carmouche said there are many struggles to being a fledgling business owner.

“One of my biggest struggles as a business owner was posting on social media,” Carmouche said. “I would post continuously and wouldn’t get any sales but I had to believe that there is always someone watching. I had to learn maybe the person watching isn’t the target market for my products but can help spread my business through word of mouth.”

When COVID -19 became more prevalent, it affected Carmouche’s business both negatively and positively.

The negative aspect was that shipping products became longer and shipping fees went up.

On the upside, she began to see her sales rise since most physical stores were closed during the beginning of the pandemic.
