Tigers baseball is back

The Grambling State Tigers baseball team is back at it and looking to prepare for their season coming up.

The baseball team looks to avenge last season and take advantage of the opportunity of being away from the game for so long. The team just like many other sports teams have had a different approach to their season this year with many virtual meetings, practices, and workouts.

“The team has been working hard this offseason, whether that be working out on their own time or virtually with team activity,” Jake Lane, a junior third baseman from Houston, Texas, said. “This season will be like no other. I feel that we have been preparing hard for this upcoming season and we are ready for whatever it has in store”.

The team has to currently go through daily Covid screenings and get tested weekly. This approach is very different for many and tough to adjust to, but the players have bought into the idea wanting to secure the safety for others.

The Tigers currently are having scrimmages with the inner squad. They have been competing against each other for a few weeks now and the season which is normally next semester is up in the air right about now.

Some of the key players to look out for this season on the baseball team are Lane, Marc Luna, Nemo Wright and Kerry Boykins.

These players really made a name for themselves last season and we are looking out for them this season.

Lane has big expectations for the Tigers this season. His goals are to win the SWAC. Also he would like to get better as a teammate himself and help the team in any way he possibly can.

“This pandemic has really taught me to never take anything for granted and always remain focused in the moment,” Lane said. “Baseball is my life and being away from it for this long has made me appreciate it even more. I have worked harder than ever to get in the best shape of my life and be ready for the season. This will be my best season up to date.”

This season will be a chance to see who really has taken this Covid situation seriously and has been able to focus through this pandemic.
