The City of Grambling is taking preventive measures to ensure the safety of Grambling residents during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.  Grambling City Hall and Community Center was effectively closed down Monday, Mar. 16. The drive-thru window for payments is still operational during normal weekday office hours 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  All activities held in the Chamber Room have been suspended. The police, fire and public works departments are on 24-hour call.

In cases of emergencies, residents are advised to contact the Grambling Police Department.

Grambling Mayor Ed Jones said all citizens of Grambling are asked to adhere to Governor Edwards’ Proclamation.

On Sunday, Mar. 22, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards mandated a statewide stay-at-home order to prevent the spreading of COVID-19.  The order went into effect at 5 p.m. that following Monday. The order effectively closes all nonessential businesses, limits public gathering down to 10 people or less, orders residents to stay home unless performing an essential activity, such as grocery shopping; and going to work if an individual’s job provides goods or services that are considered to be essential.

Essential business, such as grocery stories and medical facilities will remain open. Nonessential businesses that are closed to the public include places of public amusement, all personal care and grooming businesses, such as barber and hair shops, as well as, malls.

The provisions of the proclamation were originally effective until Monday, Apr. 13, but will now be extended until the end of April after a federal order from President Donald Trump.
