The Favrot Student Union Board (FSUB) will be hosting its annual Mardi Gras ball in the Black and Gold Room.

This event will take place on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. The dress code for the ball is formal.

This formal ball is an annual event hosted by FSUB to give students a formal event to attend during the spring semester. Seeing as how Mardi Gras is a very big holiday in Louisiana, the theme is quite fitting.

“More than half of the student body is from, or has lived, in Louisiana most of their life so I feel like it is something that they can attend that would remind them of home,” said FSUB Vice President LaJazzmond Pichon. “As the organization who plans the majority of the events on campus for the students, we try to host a variety of events that would reach more than just one group of students throughout the year.”

There will be music for students to dance to provided by Grambling’s very own, DJ Twinz.

There will also be other forms of entertainment such as a live band, violinists, and vocalists.

The violinists and outside vocalists will be a new addition to the ball. Students will also be able to enjoy free photos and photo booths provided by the Favrot Student Union Board.

“We had several students continuously ask for an event similar to prom, or a formal event almost every year,” said FSUB Business Manager Taja Tillman.

“It was finally decided to host an actual ball for students to get dressed up and enjoy their night. I personally love seeing all the students dressed up in their gowns and suits, it is my favorite part.”

Last year’s ball had a great turn out: there were over 150 students dancing and enjoying the ball’s amenities.

Each year, FSUB finds a way to create a different experience for the students. This year, they have added extra entertainment, as well as, a new opportunity for the students to bring a non-student guest as a date.

“Another new edition to this year’s ball is the fact that students will be able to bring a non-student guest if they would like to. Each student is allowed one guest who will have to fill out paperwork prior to attending the ball,” said Pichon.

Visiting students will be able to pick up their tickets on Feb. 17 in the Student Union on GSU’s campus.
