I appreciate everyone that had a hand in the production of The Gramblinite. To Ms. Peters, thank you for reminding me to laugh even when “the going gets tough.” To Mr. Barnett, thank you for allowing me to have creative freedom even when I was being stubborn at times. To the newspaper staff, thank you for trust and feedback throughout the semester. As a leader, I had to learn how to listen and understand criticism.
When I graduated with my undergraduate degree in 2014, I did not plan to come back to campus. I thought I had everything figured out, job, lifestyle, etc. But I will be the first to tell you, YOU DON’T. My mother fell ill and my world collided in front of my eyes. However, looking back now, I see that God wanted me to see more. HE works in mysterious ways, and I thank HIM for every obstacle he has put me in. In the summer of 2016, I decided to go back to school for my master’s degree in Public Administration.
At first, I just wanted a degree in a steady industry, but through my tenure I have found my passion…people. From working in the office of University Communication, creating the hashtag #GramSpiritFriday, to becoming Editor-in-chief of the newspaper. I found my creativity in photography, and was able to travel to NFL stadiums and meet many athletic professionals.
To my professors, I thank you for the comfort and consistent advice. To Dr. Holmes, I will always appreciate your patience, especially when I was stressed over comprehensive exams. You always reassured me that I had it, and you just wanted me to believe it.
In a few days, I will have received my master’s degree. The thought is still overwhelming. I come from a long list of notable gramblinites but I have created my own lane. I found my voice and I will never forget anyone that came along the way. To my family and friends, thank you for always encouraging me to be a better me. I am a strong believer that ‘’it takes a village to raise a child.”
My road at Grambling State University has come to an end, but journey is just beginning.
