On April 11 the Favrot Student Union Board held the annual Tiger Fest Concert to a standing room only crowd in the Fredrick C. Hobdy As- sembly Center.
This year the theme for Tiger Fest was “Tiger World”. The theme name was a play on Houston-native, Travis Scott’s new album “AstroWorld”. The concert lineup consisted of four diverse artists includ- ing Yella Beezy, City Girls, Kash Doll and Blac Youngsta.
Yella Beezy took the stagerst. He performed his mostpopular song “That’s On Me”.
The Dallas-native also per- formed his most recent single “Bacc At It Again”.
This song holds features from trending hip-hop art- ist Quavo and Gucci Mane. “Bacc At It Again” is making a rise on the Hip-Hop/ R&B Billboard charts currently list- ed at number 37.
The City Girls are unde- niably one of the biggest rap groups out and on the rise. Member of the dynamic duo Jatavia Johnson “JT” is in prison due to felony identity theft charges. Her partner in crime, Yung Miami, has been holding the group down while JT is serving time. Yung Mi- ami performed the City Girls hit song “I’ll Take Your Man”. She also performed popular songs from their new album “Girl Code”, like “Season”. Yung Miami invited a few girls on stage to perform “Twerk” and “Act Up” with her.
Cydney Hanks is a fresh- man double majoring in secondary education and ac- counting from Houston, Tex- as. Hanks was selected to go on stage with the City Girls.
“It was the time of my life. I love the City Girls so much. I know all of their songs,” Hanks said. “I felt like I was in a dream being on stage with Yung Miami. She’s so pretty in person too.”
Yung Miami ended the City Girls performance by singing one of their older songs that helped them make their claim to fame entitled “F*k Dat Ni**a”.
Next up one of Detroit’s biggest rappers, Kash Doll, took the stage. She performed one of her popular singles “For Everybody”, as well as, "Ice Me Out”. The entire assembly center sang along screaming “Ice Me Out, Ice Me Out”. Kash Doll also got the crowd engaged by per- forming her feature on Big Sean & Metro Boomin’s song “So Good”. like “Hip Hopper” and “Booty”.
Correa Ross, a freshman from Memphis, got to be on stage with the performer who is also her uncle. “To see my HBCU turning up to my uncle’s performance was astonishing,” Ross said.
FSUB Vice President, Arshauna Candler, said the concert took months of preparation, but was worth it.
Blac Youngsta was the last artist to take the stage. The Memphis native performed some of his popular songs
“I feel like the concert went great. The performers and the crowd’s energy were amazing. I know a lot of peo- ple enjoyed themselves. It took a couple of months to get the concert together. We took in as many suggestions from students as we could before giving our list to our booking agent,” Candler said.
