Stephanie Miles-Richardson, DVM, PhD was elected President of the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), an independent agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit schools of public health, and public health programs outside schools of public health.
Dr. Miles-Richardson, Professor in the Department of Community Health and Preventive Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) in Atlanta, GA, currently serves as Associate Dean of Graduate Education in Public Health and Director of the Master of Public Health (MPH) program at MSM. The MPH Program at MSM was established in 1995 to address the increasing shortage of underrepresented minorities in leadership positions in the field of public health. In 1999, it was the first accredited MPH program at an HBCU.
Dr. Miles-Richardson is the first African American CEPH President and the first from an HBCU.
She is a 1984 graduate of Grambling Laboratory High School and a 1988 graduate of Grambling State University (GSU). At GSU, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and was an initiate of the Alpha Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
After graduating from GSU, Dr. Miles-Richardson earned two doctoral degrees: a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Tuskegee University in Alabama and a dual PhD in Pathology/Environmental Toxicology from Michigan State University. Prior to joining MSM in 2008, she worked as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Public Health Service at the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for over a decade.
Dr. Miles-Richardson is immediate Past President of the Association of Public Health Programs, another organization for which she was the first female and first African American President. She is also immediate Past President of the Tuskegee Veterinary Medical Alumni Association. Dr. Miles-Richardson is a member of the Tau Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Berean Christian Church, both in Stone Mountain, GA.
Dr. Miles-Richardson’s parents are Dr. and Mrs. Benny Miles of Gambling as is her godmother, Valena P. Lane. She is married to Burnell Richardson,Jr, a GSU alum from Winnsboro, LA. They have 3 children: Brandon, an alum and lecturer at GSU, Dhara, a junior at GSU, and Bryce who resides with his parents in Stone Mountain, GA.
