The gang’s all here. The royal blue and gold ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority have added eight sisters to the family.
“It has been one year since Beta Omega has had a line in Spring 2018, so great to see the organization come together in a ‘Unique, Classy and Fresh’ way,” Yolantae Dillon, a junior criminal justice major, said.
Along with most of the campus, Dillon is excited to have all Greeks back.
“I am very excited to have all Greeks back on campus,” Dillon said. “A big Greek event would really be a mood.”
Eight new “hardworking ladies” have been unveiled. Tuesday evening, Dillon and seven others were introduced during their celebration in the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center. Many took to social media to show their excitement for the new members.
Sigma Gamma Rho means a lifetime sisterhood,” Dillon said. “Along with seven amazing women, giving back to the community is a major priority.”
With more than 85,000 members and 500 chapters, seven young educators on Butler University’s campus founded the organization in 1922. It was built on sisterhood, scholarship and service.
“I did some research on all divine nine sororities, but SGRho stood out to me,” Dillon said. “I’m a huge supporter of education. It’s focus is to promote and encourage high scholarship attainment.”
Many incoming freshman build curiosity and interest to join a sorority or fraternity. Each person has a different purpose to join a Greek organization.
“On the outside looking into Greek life, I saw values that I wanted to be a part of,” Dillon said. “Community service and unity.”
Sigma Gamma Rho prides itself on enhancing, “the quality of life for women and their families in the U.S. and globally through community service, civil, and social action,” as seen on sgrho1922.org.
“Being a SGRho, for me, means  achieving greater progress in education, health awareness, and leadership,” Dillon said.
“SGRho was established on the precept of education.”
