Softball team still undefeated at 6-0

The Grambling State Tigers softball team is on a winning streak.

The Lady Tigers are now 6-0 after they swept the Texas College Steers on Feb. 13.

“I am very grateful for the winning streak we have right now but not satisfied, as a team we want more and have to remain focused on one game at a time to accomplish our season goals,” Morgan Adams, a sophomore outfielder, said.

The Lady Tigers were able to get a 12-0 shutout for the first game of Wednesday series. In the second game, they held the Steers to one run, walking away with a 10-1 score.

“[Wednesday] allowed us to change our focus on the game and have patience, the pitching we faced was pretty slow compared to what we are use to so it gave us time to adjust and reevaluate what we were doing at the plate so we could still play a shutout game,” Adrenna Reynolds, a junior catcher, said. “It was also a great home opener.”

The Lady Tigers have been thriving under their new coach, Nakeya Hall.

Hall previously won SWAC Coach of the year for leading the Alabama A&M Bulldogs to a East Division title.

“I feel absolutely welcomed at Grambling,” Hall said. “The support from when I first stepped on campus has been unreal. I love being a part of Grambling. I love the tradition and history of Grambling State University. This place feels like home”, Hall said.

Hall has big plans for the softball team.

“Our plan for the season is to be better than we have in the past,” Hall said. “Win more, compete in every game and not to finish last. This year is the foundation of the legacy that we are building and we want this foundation to be as strong as ever.”

The ladies of the softball team have responded well to having Coach Hall as their new head coach.

Adams said she is onboard with Hall.

“Having Coach Hall as a coach is a blessing,” Adams said. “I love her and her staff, they really do care about us on and off the field. I have been pushed way past the limits I had set for myself. This season with her is truly a storybook season and it’s only the beginning.”

The Lady Tigers softball team’s next couple of games will be on the road. Their next home game will be Tuesday, Feb. 26 against the Mississippi Valley Delta Devils at 1 p.m.

“The crowd support was unbelievable,” Halls aid. “I have coached at several other Universities and never seen a crowd at a softball game like I did on Wednesday. I will never forget my first home game here at Grambling State University. It was standing room only and I hope we didn’t disappoint. I’m proud to be a Tiger!’

The softball team is encouraging the community at large to attend their games and show support of our softball team.

“The crowd support is very helpful to us, we feed off the crowd and their energy,” Adams said. “Seeing people cheer for us and at the games in general really pushes to play harder because we do not want to let them down.”
