New SGA officers sworn in

The newly elected student leaders of Grambling State University claimed their positions as they were sworn in at the Student Government Association Inauguration Tuesday, Sept. 11.


The ceremony kicked off with an introduction of the newly elected student leaders, and was followed by the presenting of the colors by the Army ROTC and the National Anthem performed by Jessica Barnes, a member of the Grambling State University Choir. Miss Grambling State University elect, Jamariea Davis-Miller, delivered the opening prayer. Following a song selection by the Grambling State University choir. Student Government advisor, Talmon Butler, welcomed everyone to the ceremony.


The new members were sworn in by the Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. David Ponton. After being sworn in, the class presidents delivered their state of class address. The presidents shared their platforms, aspirations and visions for this school year. Ashley Dabney, the sophomore class president, shared that her class cabinet’s mission is to
“Reclaim their time,” Dabney said. “It is time we put our minds together to rebuild as one family. Today officially begins the mission to restore our dear ole Grambling.”


Adarian Williams, the two- term Student Government Association president, delivered his Inaugural Address.
“Our destiny, our goal is shared, that goal is to mature student success,” Williams said.


Williams also invited his peers to partake in their goals to serve them and he followed this statement by saying that there is so much in store.


After the ceremony, some of the student leaders shared their views and expectations of SGA. Adarian Williams said that his expectations for SGA is to do what they are suppose to do, which is serve the student body and advocate for the students. Williams proceeded by saying that he wanted to  make sure that the pool is up and running , the bowling alley is restored, and the wifi is boosted. Williams wanted to ensure that the students are comfortable with eating in the cafe. Overall Williams’ goal is to be an impact and inspiration to the student body.


Stephon Wilson, the Assistant director of transportation, gave insight  from the office of transportation aspect. Their goal is to make sure that all of the students are satisfied and getting their needs met. Wilson said “With SGA I look forward to a great year with new leaders and making our organization better.” Wilson said. “SGA is a great organization to be in and it will mold you to be better leaders by representing your school and yourself in a professional way.”
GSU student leaders said they are determined to serve and make the 2018-19 school year successful for the student body and GSU as a whole.
