Two contests in observance of Founder’s Week being held
Two contests have been announced by the Eddie G. Robinson Museum in conjunction with Founder’s Week.

The Essay Contest, co-sponsored by the GSU Office of Advancement, is open to first- and second-semester freshmen. The essay topic is “What is the Importance of Founder’s Day?”

Essays must be 250-300 words, typed and in APA format. Only the first 50 essays will be considered.

The winner will receive $75, and the second-place finisher will receive $50.

Applications can be picked up from the University College Title III Programs office in Brown Hall or any university college instructor.

The Brochure Contest, which is co-sponsored by the History Department, is open to any student who is enrolled in a history class.

Entries will be judged on graphic design, purpose and historical information on Coach Eddie Robinson’s tenure at GSU. The brochure must be a single fold 8.5’’ x 11’’ two-sided sheet of paper, or a tri-fold 8.5’’ x 14’’ two-sided sheet of paper.

Applications can be picked up in the History Department or the Eddie G. Robinson Museum. Only the first 50 entries will be considered.
The prize for first place is $75, and $50 for second place.

The deadline to enter both contests is noon Sept. 24. Entries must be turned in at the museum.

Local women’s group schedules membership event on Tuesday
The public is invited to the Membership Expo being sponsored by the North Louisiana Branch of the American Association of University Women.

The Expo will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the First National Bank of Ruston, 2001 N. Trenton St. (Highway 167 North) in Ruston.

The AAUW, which was founded in 1881, is the nation’s leading organization that promotes equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. It has nearly 100,000 members, 1,300 branches and 500 college and university institutional partners.

Promotion and Tenure Workshop to be presented by Faculty Senate
The Faculty Senate is sponsoring a Promotion and Tenure Workshop at 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Grambling Hall Auditorium.

All faculty who are interested are asked to RSVP to Wanda Jacobs at 318-274-3185 by Friday.

A luncheon will follow the workshop presentation.

Organizational Fair to be held  on Wednesday on the Quad
Grambling State University’s annual Organizational Fair will be taking place at 5 p.m. Wednesday on the Quad.

 “The organizational fair is open to Greeks, non-Greeks, anyone who have an organization or a club, and all the student body interested,” said Sharon Perkins, Favrot Student Union adviser.

Some of the organizations who may be in attendance include the Favrot Student Union Board, United African American Men, Alpha Phi Omega, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Society of Distinguished Black Women, and more.

The primary purpose of the Organizational Fair is to enable freshmen to be aware of the organizations that are on campus and what they have to offer.

GSUPD cracking down on parking violators across campus
The Grambling State University Police Department has started issuing tickets across campus for vehicles without university parking permits.

All students, faculty and staff must obtain parking decals from the Traffic Office, Room 171 in Long-Jones Hall, or risk being ticketed.

The cost is $14 for students, $30 for faculty and staff. 

On-campus students are not permitted to drive to class between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Commuting students should park in the designated parking lots for commuters as designated:
• On Dickerson Street, between Charles P. Adams and Woodson
• On Cole Street, south side facing Charles P. Adams
• On the front row of Charles P. Adams Hall, facing RWE Jones Drive
• On the north end of the A.C. Lewis Memorial Library
• On Blalock Street, where the white paint starts behind the basketball court
• Lot in the front, on the right, of the Conrad Hutchinson Jr. Performing Arts Building
• Lot across from the University Police headquarters, near the St. Benedict Catholic Center
• At the Performing Arts building, on the left side when facing the building

Commuter lots are painted white and faculty/staff lots are yellow.

Parking handbooks can be obtained at the Traffic Office online or in Room 171 Long-Jones Hall.

Tickets will be issued for the violations of parking on the lawn, parking in a No Parking Zone, and parking in a Handicap parking spot.
