StrutLA modeling Troupe partnered with career services in a “Dress for Success” fashion show. The fashion show was based on knowing where and when to wear certain things, while also showing students the do’s and dont’s of the following categories: late evening, formal, casual, semi-formal and professional wear. The fashion show had three main focuses: Chat, Chew and Review.
Familiar faces of Grambling State University such as First Lady of Tiger Football, Kimba Fobbs and Director of Financial aid, Gavin Hamms, modeled outfits with the StrutLA models along with SGA and the Royal Court. Shelia Fobbs, Director of Career Services states “We chose a variety of faculty members in the show who dress well for their size. We believe that it is important to dress for you and the way your body is made.”
The show began around 6 p.m. and students filled the seats of the cafeteria while enjoying both their meals and the fashion show. The models strutted down the runway wearing items donated by the vendors available during the show.

information from professionals
The Career Services Department has held career fairs, resume workshops, and convocations throughout the school year, but this time they were taking a different approach to attract students.
Shelia Fobbs, director of Career Services, states “We came up with the Chat, Chew, and Review aspect to give the students the opportunity to enjoy our different style techniques while enjoying their meals on Grambling’s Famous Fried Chicken Tuesday.”
Tammara Ellis, president of StrutLA Modeling Troupe states, “Because people barely attend the workshops hosted by career services, putting on a fashion show in the café reaches about 200+ students easily especially on fried chicken Tuesday. It was a brilliant idea”
As the show went on, Miss Grambling State University and her Royal Court modeled the importance of class wear to students. The models sported clothing that would be most suitable in the classroom while still looking fashionable.
Raven Boyd, freshman, states “I really enjoyed the fashion show. I loved how they stressed class wear and business casual. As a freshman, especially for business casual, you don’t really know exactly what that means and it was good to actually see examples.”
Closing the show with formal wear, the models took their final walk as the crowd gave them a roaring applause along standing ovations.
During the show, vendors such as: Dusse’ Boutique, Elanda’s Hair Gallery, Health Hut, Men’s Warehouse, One Wardrobe, SassyFace, LLC, Suits By Lawrence Donneli and True Dental were available during the show to inform students about local business around the area to fit their basic “Dress for Success” needs. Career Services would like to remind the student of Grambling State University of their motto “One never gets a second chance to make a first impression.” The Fashion Show will be an annual event during the spring semester at Grambling State University stressing the idea of developing the proper image for you.
