A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered to anyone who has information about the suspected gunman in a fatal shooting at a club in Grambling early Saturday morning.

William Patterson Jr., 33, was pronounced dead by the Lincoln Parish Coroner’s Office on the scene at Legend’s Nightclub, 7604 Highway 80, at 1 a.m. on Saturday, April 16. He had  been shot numerous times in the chest.

Jody Adolphus has been identified as a person of interest in the shooting.

“Everyone was in the club having a good time when the actual shooting happened,” said Aaliyah Robinson, a freshman theatre major from Peoria, Illinois. “We didn’t even hear gunshots or anything, but they had shut the party down early because of it. It wasn’t until everyone went outside that we realized someone had been killed because the ambulance and police were out there,” Robinson said.

Emergency medical personnel were unable to save the victim.

Police believe a fisfight involving Patterson and Adolphus happened before the killing. Witnesses told police that Adolphus was the person who shot Patterson.

Taiylor Watts was outside when the shooting occurred.

“I felt sad because of the way it happened. I hate that the guy had to get shot over something so senseless.

“My heart goes out to the family and I give my deepest condolences. You can be here today and gone tomorrow, things happen so quickly,” said Watts, a junior chemistry major from New Orleans.

People inside Legend’s were unaware of what was happening in the parking lot.

“I was standing next to the door and people were trying to open the door and they weren’t letting anyone out,” said Bradley Alexander II, a business management major from Las Vegas.

“I heard one gunshot. People from inside the club were practically beating down the door to get out and were oblivious to what was going on,” he said.

Robinson bemoaned that fact the club is not safe. She said that the incident happened despite the presence of security guards.

“Legends is one of the only clubs that Grambling students go to in order to enjoy themselves for the weekend.

Robinson said the shooting “doesn’t make students feel safe and secure to even attend the club anymore.”

If anyone should have further information on the identified suspect they can contact the Grambling Police Department at 318-247-3772 or Crime Stoppers at 318-255-1111.
