Funeral services were held for Dr. William H. Horton Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Shreveport. Dr. Horton was an associate professor in the Department of History at Grambling State University.

Dr. Horton was to the union of the late Abrou and Lena Horton, May 19, 1941 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Stoner Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Price.
He attended school in Caddo Parish were he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. After graduating, Willie as he was known, served his country in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge.
Willie received a BA Degree from Southern university in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He received his Masters and Ph.D. from State University of New York at Buffalo. As his thirst for knowledge continued, Willie received a degree in Theology and Master Course in Automotive Servicing.
He was a faithful member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Ruston, Louisiana after moving to the Grambling, Louisiana area.
Willie’s working career consisted of 43 years of teaching experience and 31 years was spent at Grambling State University. He also worked at the University of Louisville and Murray State.
His parents, his wife, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Cherishing Willie’s memories are: two sisters, Lillie P. Cook (Swisun City, California), Bobbie Jane Samuels (Shreveport, Louisiana), childhood friend, E.L. Samuels and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
