Pannell to speak at church’s Men’s Day

The New Rocky Valley Baptist Church Family of Grambling, Louisiana, invites all local churches and the general public to the 2015 Annual Men’s Day Celebration Program on Nov. 22 at 10:30 a.m. 

Guest speaker is Dr. Larry Pannell, director of the Grambling State University World Famed Marching Band.

Dr.  Pannell is a native of Shreveport. He is currently the department head of the Grambling State University Music Department and head of Grambling State University World Famed Marching Band.  

He received his bachelor’s from Grambling State University, master’s from Louisiana Tech University and doctorate of music from the American Conservatory of Music.  

Dr. Pannell previously served as the band instructor for the Caddo Parish School Board, as well as the Los Angeles and Bakersfield Unified School Districts before joining the GSU family.   

He also served as assistant professor and assistant band director prior to taking his current position.  

He is a member of the Louisiana Music Education Association, National Clarinet Society, National Saxophone Society, SWAC Band Director Association, Music Education National Association, Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Professional Music Fraternity, and Omega Psi Phi Greek-letter fraternity.  

Leading up to Men’s Day, there will be a concert performance by the GSU String Chamber Orchestra under the leadership of Ye Tao, director, Nov. 18, 2015 at 6 p.m. in the Church Sanctuary.  

The church family is honored, grateful and humble about the approaching opportunity to celebrate the men of the church, the City of Grambling, Grambling State University and the surrounding communities.
