Favrot Student Union Board releases upcoming activities

The Favrot Student Union Board has released a number of activities for September. Activities will include a Calendar Signing on The Yard at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8.

A Water Play Day will be held at 6 p.m. in the Quad on Thursday, Sept. 10 and Friday, Sept. 11 a Gramfam Movie Day – Showing: The “Perfect Guy” in the Ruston Celebrity Theaters at 4 p.m. The first 50 students to sign up is free including transportation. Sign up in office 215 in the Student Union for free ticket and transportation by Sept. 8. Must be a registered student. After first 50, you must present valid student ID to purchase $5.50 ticket. One ticket per student and space is limited.

On Friday, Sept. 11 a Pep Rally will be held in the Men’s Gym at 2 p.m. A Poetry Night  is set for Sept. 14 in the Black & Gold Room at 7 p.m. Homecoming Talent Show & Event Host Auditions will be held Sept. 14-15 in the T.H. Harris Auditorium at 7 p.m. If interested email khadijah_34@yahoo.com to get more information.

On Sept. 19-20 a Student Spectator Bus to Alabama State University in Montgomery, Ala. will be available for $90 – Includes one night hotel stay, transportation, and game ticket. Deadline to pay is Sept. 15 – Must be a registered student. – No judicial record within the past year. – If paying with cash, credit/debit card you must pay at the cashier’s window located in Long-Jones Hall. – If paying with G-Flex you must pay at the Tiger 1 Card office located in Long-Jones Hall. – You must bring your receipt to office 215 in the Student Union to officially sign up. – Seats limited.

The Coronation of Miss Grambling State University Joyia Smith will be held Thursday, Sept. 17. The theme will be Krewe of Tigers: The gala will be in the T. H. Harris Auditorium at 7 p.m. and the attire required is semi-formal.

 

Work study students, supervisors must attend required meeting

All work study students and supervisors all students who have been awarded college work study are required to attend two training sessions on: Tuesday, Sept. 8 and Thursday,  Sept. 10 from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. The session will be held in the Betty Smith School of Nursing Auditorium.

Students are not authorized to begin work until both sessions are completed. To register for the student sessions sign in at:

Supervisors must attend a Lunch and Learn, supervisor training session which will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m. in the School of Nursing Auditorium. To register for the supervisor session sign in at:

Career and Placement Services to continue clothes closet

  The Office of Career Services has been operating a Clothes Closet for participating Career Service Students.  The clothes are for those students that do not have the proper attire for interviews.

The clothes are slightly used items donated by the community.  The originators of the idea, Ouachita/Grambling Links, Inc., and the Center saw a need.  Beginning Sept. 15 through Oct. 25 donations will be solicited.

 

Changes made in the Grambling, Bethune-Cookman kickoff time

  Athletic officials at Grambling State University and Bethune-Cookman University has announced a change in the kickoff time of the the football game on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Eddie G. Robinson Sr. Memorial Stadium.  The kick off time is now 6 p.m. CST, which was moved back two hours from the original kickoff time of 4 .pm. CST.

 

Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church brings together a day of activities

The Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Ruston will hold a Family, Friends and College Day on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. The church is located on 622 West Line Ave.

The theme for the evenrt will be “What a fellowship when the Saints of God can come together in unity.” Serving as guest speaker for the event will be Rev. Stavinola Bradley. The pastor of the church is Rev. Clyde L. Oliver.

 

New Rocky Valley Baptist Church to hold annual revival

The New Rocky Valley Baptist Church of Grambling will hold its annual revival from Sept. 14 until  Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. nightly. The evangelist will be Leslie W. Smith, pastor of North Dallas Community Bible Fellowship in Plano, Texas.

The theme will be Making disciples for Christ, taken from Matthew 28:19-20.

Rev. Julius R. Sumler, pastor/teacher and the members of the church encourage all area communities to come out and share in the services.

 

Senator Richard Gallot appointed to Louisiana Rural Caucus role

The Louisiana Rural Caucus announced the election of officers for 2015-2016. District 29 State Senator Rick Gallot (D-Ruston) was appointed by caucus chairman Rep. Jack Montoucet (D-Crowley) to serve on the Louisiana Rural Caucus Executive Committee.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to work together with my fellow caucus members to promote the importance of rural Louisiana to our state’s economy and well-being,” Sen. Gallot, a member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture and Rural Development, said. “The work of the rural caucus is critical to addressing issues important to our rural communities.”

In addition to the Senate agriculture committee, Gallot is vice-chairman of the  Senate Commerce, Consumer Protection and International Affairs Committee and is a member of the Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee.

The Louisiana Rural Caucus is an organization to promote and better the conditions and objectives of rural Louisiana. Its membership includes 87 legislators from around the state.
