Local church to hold Bible school

The Zion Travel Baptist Church of Ruston will hold its annual vacation Bible School activities Monday, June 26 and end Friday, June 30 from 6-8 p.m.

The theme for the week will be "Trading Places Where Jesus Makes a World of Difference. The week will be filled with crafts, fun, games, Bible lessons, and snack.

Christ Temple holds ‘Business Meeting’

The Christ Temple Baptist Church will perform the play "The Church Business Meeting II at the Red Rock Church" Sunday, July 2 at the Ruston Civic Center at 7 p.m.

If you witnessed the first Business Meeting at Red Rock … trust me, you don’t want to miss this one! It is a halarious religious comedy musical play for all ages.

The play coordinators are Terrell Jones and Jackie Greer. There is a $8 general admission price but $10 at the door, so please get your tickets early.

Box office opens for ‘Princess Ida’

"Princess Ida" will be shown at the Marjorie Lyons Playhouse, Woodlawn Avenue at Wilkinson Street in Shreveport on July 13 and 15, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 16 at 2:30 p.m.

The admission for the play is $20 untill Tuesday, July 4th $25 after July 4th. Senior Citizens, children under 18 and Active duty military with appropriate identication can purchase tickets for $20. The play contains scenes with sword-fighting, witty humor and beautiful singing.

The show tells the story of Ida, the princess of Transylvania and daughter of Vlad Dracula, who secludes herself with other women in a university dedicated to learning and living independently from men. Prince Hilarion, who has loved her since they were betrothed, goes to find her with his two closest friends (Florian & Cyril) before King Hildebrand of Hungary arrives with his army to force her obedience. Lord Gama Radu, the Ottoman Turk – backed ruler of neighboring Wallachia, attempts to foil King Hildebrand in his plans and is, in turn, taken hostage along with his warrior sons (Arac, Mircea, Vladislav). Ida defiantly rejects Hildebrand’s ultimatum and, in turn, takes hostage Hilarion and his friends who have infiltrated the university dressed as women. The issue culminates in a duel between Hilarion and his friends versus Arac and his brothers.
