The Louisiana Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (LA-EPSCoR) is soliciting research proposals from the state’s tenured, tenure-track or full-time research professors in science and engineering. Proposals are due April 18. The program is limited to the science and engineering research disciplines supported by the National Science Foundation. Funding for the Opportunities for Partnerships in Technology with Industry (OPT-IN) program is provided through the Board of Regents Support Fund in conjunction with the EPSCoR cooperative agreement between Louisiana and the National Science Foundation. The OPT-IN program is designed to support faculty in their efforts to collaborate with private sector industrial/business entities.
Specific questions about requirements should be sent to Executive Director of Special Programs Jim Gershey at jimgershey@la.gov. Questions will be accepted and answered through 4:30 p.m. April 11.

Free dental care is offered
Shreveport dentist Dr. Dana Jackson is helping the residents of Shreveport and surrounding communities during these difficult economic times by organizing free Emergency Dental Treatments days.

The first will be Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at her office, Divine Dentistry, 515 E. Washington St., Suite A, in Shreveport.

The Emergency Dental Treatment Day is designed to treat anyone (adult or child) for free who cannot afford dentistry.
“Anyone with a dental emergency or in need of a cleaning, who could not afford it, will be provided with Emergency Dental Treatment at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis,” Dr. Jackson said.

Free emergency dental treatment in Shreveport will be held periodically throughout the year, Dr. Jackson said. The next free dental treatments will be given Friday, Feb. 25, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Conference set this weekend
In celebration of Black History Month, Pi Gamma Mu Honor Society will sponsor an Empowerment Conference Saturday through Monday. The event is a community service project sponsored by the Black Empowerment Apprenticeship Program.

The conference will also include a scholarship luncheon, the keynote speaker for which will be Dr. Neari F. Warner, former acting president of Grambling State.

Other conference speakers will include former acting dean of GSU’s School of Social Work, Dr. V.T Samuel, and former students Andre Aikins, Dr. Laivian Coleman, Kisha Richard and William Merritt.

Taking part in the conference will be Pi Gamma faculty advisers and students from GSU, Alcorn, Jackson State, Southern University (Baton Rouge and Shreveport), Bossier Parish Community College, Delta Community College, Rust College, and Wiley College .

The conference theme is “A New Beginning of Collaboration and Promoting the Seven Ideals of Pi Gamma Mu.
