On Wednesday, TigerFest seemed to be better than the days before. At 7 p.m., the comedy show started as usual with music to keep the students alive and hyped until the comedians were ready to put on their performances. The opening act was one of our own Grambling State University students by the name of Curtis Arrington.

I can honestly say this year's Tigerfest was definitely a step up from last year. Although as an upperclassman I've realized the campus events seem to lose their charisma the longer you're here, it was still memorable.

I guess I could give the Advisory Board members of the Student Union Board a pat on the back.

The 2008 TigerFest went well for the majority of the week. It seemed that all events were positive and students enjoyed the last bit of festivities before the close of the school year.

This was until Friday afternoon when students were shocked to see dozens of state troopers with assault rifles around the campus of Grambling State University, ordering students to remove themselves from campus.

Before 1999 when a shooting rampage at Columbine High School left 15 people dead, a school campus was considered one of the safest environments around.

According to a poll, students agree that parking and the need for a shuttle bus system are major issues on campus. The poll, done by Dr. Gaylon Murray's MC 562 class, was conducted earlier this month.

Of 224 students surveyed, 67 percent strongly agreed that the university needed a shuttle bus system.

Most of us were barely in Jr. high, but we remember what happened at Columbine in 1999. We remember the shocked and horrified faces of the high school kids who were caught off guard by the rage of their own peers. We remember the media stating that it was one of the worst homegrown attacks in US history.

Gun violence is taking too many lives in America. Liberal gun laws and the Second Amendment right to own gun has made America a very dangerous society to live in. Gun violence is disproportionately affecting the African-Americans and the people at the low socio-economic level.
